Back in early September – striker injury boost for Port Vale
Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke says that striker James Wilson could be back in the squad in “early September.”
The Valiants have missed last season’s top-scorer and have looked short of numbers upfront despite the addition of Ellis Harrison in recent weeks. The Vale have started some games with youngster Tommy McDermott or summer signing Rory Holden playing out of position upfront to cover for the lack of available forwards so Wilson’s return will be a huge boost to the club.
Clarke told the media: “We have Worrall and Gavin Massey returning from injury. Willo (James Wilson) should be back in early September as well. So, we are starting to look positive on the injury front.”
The Valiants will have a behind closed doors friendly on Monday which will give injured players a chance to get match fitness. Even with Wilson nearing a return, Clarke has said he is still looking to boost his forward options ahead of the transfer deadline. The manager has said he wants a player who offers something different to Wilson, Harrison and Jamie Proctor.
