Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke has suggested that he is prepared to wait to sign the right quality players to strengthen his Port Vale squad.
There has been increasing anxiety among some Port Vale fans after the club only added two players to their ranks so far. Funso Ojo and Lewis Cass have both joined the club on a permanent basis while the likes of Jake Taylor, Aaron Martin, Alex Hurst, James Gibbons and Lucas Covolan have all left.
I would rather have a good player for 44 or 45 weeks of the year than an average player for 52 weeks of the year…
However, Clarke has told the Sentinel newspaper that the club are working hard behind the scenes and he would rather wait for quality signings rather than rush into poor quality ones.
Clarke told the newspaper:
That (the goalkeeping area) is certainly an area we are going to look to strengthen. The top end of the pitch, midfield, wing-back areas, we have a lot of work to do and we are doing a lot of work on it.
But what I will say is I would rather have a good player for 44 or 45 weeks of the year than an average player for 52 weeks of the year. So, we are working hard to make sure we get the right personnel into the club.
We have an unbelievable spirit at the club, there is an unbelievable togetherness with the supporters and the owners and we want to make sure that players are the right fit.
The Port Vale manager is targeting around six to seven new additions to his squad as they prepare for life in League One. The squad are currently at a training camp in Spain preparing for the new campaign.
