Championship side Reading have announced the signing of Port Vale youth teamer John Clarke.
A statement on the official Reading website announced:
Left-back John Clarke also joins our Under-23s from Port Vale, signing paperwork on a professional deal with the Royals yesterday afternoon.
Clarke was signed by the Valiants last season from Stockport Town and featured in a number of pre-season friendly games for the club.
Speaking at the time of the signing, then Port Vale youth team coach Billy Paynter said: “John Clarke is a second year and we see him as a left-back and he can play left-side centre half. He loves getting forward and is aggressive.
“He reminds me of a Jake Bidwell who used to be at Everton and went to Brentford and has played for Swansea. He is very tenacious and aggressive but off the pitch, he is a very good lad.”
