I am so pleased – Darrell Clarke’s reaction after Vale reach Wembley
A “very emotional” Darrell Clarke said he was “so pleased” as his Valiants side reached the League Two play-off final at Wembley stadium.
Vale recovered from a 2-1 first-leg loss to win through on penalties on a dramatic night in Burslem.
I think we deserved that, we have one more massive game to go but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy tonight. I am so proud of everybody…
Speaking to the media Clarke said he was: “Very emotional. I am so pleased for everybody at the club, the owners, the supporters, my staff and my players. I think we deserved that, we have one more massive game to go but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy tonight. I am so proud of everybody.
“We left nothing out on the pitch. I said to the boys before the game, don’t leave anything out there.
“I thought we thoroughly deserved the win to be honest with you. To be two penalties down and come back and win it, I am over the moon.”
Clarke has had a tremendously tough time recently due to a close family bereavement and he apologised for an incident which saw him dismissed. He said: “I want to apologise. I shouldn’t have done what I did on the touchline. I apologise to Swindon and Dion. They’re a good club, he’s a good player. I don’t know what came over me. I’ve had an emotional time. It’s the first time I’ve been sent-off.”
