Credit to him – Andy Crosby praises recalled keeper Aidan Stone
Aidan Stone is set to keep his place against former club Mansfield Town after his performance against Crawley Town earned the praise of Andy Crosby.
Stone was recalled to the side in place of loanee Tomas Holy and looked the part with two crucial first-half saves in his thirteenth appearance for the club.
Credit to him. He made a crucial save at 2-1 down to his right. But I thought his general game, his starting position from balls over the top, his kicking and his communication was good. So, I am delighted with how he played…
The Stafford-born 22 year-old was praised by Vale assistant manager Andy Crosby after the 4-1 win. Crosby told the media: “I looked at our performance over the last few games and decided it was time to make a change in that position.
“The conversations with Tomas (Holy) will remain private but the way Stoney has conducted himself, the way he has trained… and I thought he was excellent today.
“It is a message I am sure the players sometimes get sick of hearing – ‘make sure you are ready, make sure you are training right,’ blah, blah, blah.
“But then the opportunity arises and you go out there and that is when you are being judged.
“Credit to him. He made a crucial save at 2-1 down to his right. But I thought his general game, his starting position from balls over the top, his kicking and his communication was good. So, I am delighted with how he played.”
