Port Vale injury update – manager says popular defender suffered “hamstring tear”
Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke has given an update on some of his injury-hit players as he revealed that James Gibbons suffered a “hamstring tear” on Saturday.
The defender was forced off in the early stages of the 0-0 draw with Leyton Orient to add to a lengthy list of Port Vale absentees.
Port Vale’s Absentees
- James Gibbons: hamstring tear
- Tom Conlon: achilles injury
- David Worrall: Covid-related
- Dan Jones: a “knock”
- Jamie Proctor: recovering from stomach surgery
- Devante Rodney: unknown, possible long-standing heel complaint
Darrell Clarke on James Gibbons:
“The boy is in tears, he is that sort of lad. That is why the fans love him, it is why I love him and why his team mates love him. It is another big setback for him but he has the mentality to come back from it, that is the sort of lad he is. We will gather around him and get him going, get his head picked up, because he was in tears.”
Darrell Clarke on Tom Conlon:
“There are a few decisions to be made on that and Tom will make those decisions. We have been given a few options so we will see how that develops. I will have more of an update for you, certainly next week.”
Other injuries:
The Port Vale manager also revealed that David Worrall was missing because of Covid while available-again defender Dan Jones was missing as he had picked up a “knock”.
