Model pro – Darrell Clarke pays tribute to Port Vale hat-trick hero James Wilson
Darrell Clarke said that hat-trick scorer James Wilson is “a great lad” after his man of the match performance against Accrington on Saturday.
The Valiants upset League One outfit Accrington by winning 5-1 in their FA Cup first round game with Wilson scoring three goals.
He is a great lad, he is a model pro…
Clarke told the media: “He is a great lad, he is a model pro. He has been at some big clubs and is enjoying his football.
“That is the remit I gave him when I brought him here – enjoy his football, work hard for the team, which he has done on every occasion, get his training plan right, which I think is very important for him, and we know he has that ability to score goals.
“I thought in the first half we probably took an undeserved lead if I am honest with you. It was one moment of brilliance from Wilson.
“A little change of formation certainly helped in the second half to give us a little bit more control in the centre midfield areas, and the goals kept coming after their lad was sent off.”

Sour grapes from Coleman, he should hold his hand up and credit the Vale’s performance, not dwell on the sending off, and countless excuses for his poor team showing. 5-1 is a drubbing, accept and move on. Not done his hard earned reputation any good with his pathetic carping.
