Got to make sure you’re performing – Ben Garrity on competition for places at Port Vale
Port Vale midfielder Ben Garrity says the competition for starting places among the Port Vale squad is driving players on as they know they have to put on a good performance every week.
There’s pressure on us to keep performing but we know that anyway…
Ahead of the game against Bradford, assistant manager Andy Crosby sounded a warning saying “We are going to have players now who won’t make the bench on Saturday who have perhaps have been used to playing games for this club or their own parent club.”
Garrity told the media about the competition for places saying: “Yeah, I think that’s been since the start. He (Darrell Clarke) can change the formation to bring other players in. You’ve just to make sure you’re performing and hopefully it’s up to the manager if he thinks you should be in the team. But even if you’re playing well he’s told us if he wants to change the team, he will. Whatever opposition we’re playing he may want to change the formation. So, you just have to go with it because up to now he hasn’t got a decision wrong.
“There’s a lot of good players. They could walk into most teams in League Two. There’s pressure on us to keep performing but we know that anyway.”
