‘Strength in depth’ and ‘quality football’ – fans react to Port Vale’s 3-0 win over Colchester Utd
Port Vale fans were delighted with the side’s never say die attitude as they left it late to defeat Leyton Orient 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Despite losing top-scorer Jamie Proctor, Darrell Clarke’s side ended up 3-0 winners after two early goals for the Valiants. A third in the second-half made it a comfortable 3-0 home win for the Valiants.

What the fans said…
I think we now have eleven different players that have scored for us now. That’s a good sign and a mark of our strength in depth. If we can win at Crawley it sets up a great live Sky game against Bradford…

Well it’s becoming a habit… That was easy. Conlon and Gibbons outstanding. Wilson, Cass, Pett very, very good. The rest very good

Gibbo is absolute class. His desire shines through. He’s capable of playing left and right back, he can score the odd goal, his commitment is second to none…

An all round professional performance in my book, I thought on another day Colchester could have scored a couple, but overall we dominated, Conlon MOM in my opinion…

Great result, some really good performances, Gibbons, Conlon and Wilson were excellent and could have been 4 or 5. The only downside for me was the crowd, we been playing some decent stuff most of the season and top six since mid September but less than 5,500 was a poor gate for me…

We looked streets ahead of Colchester. I’m going to put my Carl from Wolstanton negative hat on and say it was far too easy at times today to the point when our showboating almost cost us on a couple of occasions. Yet another game where we took our foot off the gas second half instead of putting a very poor team to the sword…

In terms of the game, well it was pretty easy wasn’t it? Colchester were awful and never looked interested. We controlled the game throughout the defence, midfield and forward line. Politic, Rodney and Wilson looked like a formidable front three. We look strong in every position and we seem to just have the extra quality on the majority of opponents…

Enjoyed the game today, played some neat football, agree that on another day Colchester could have scored a couple and super Vale could have had five, keep believing…

Great performance completely outclassed them with the scary thing being i dont think we had to get out of a second gear to do so. We were hungrier than them first to every second ball and then when we had it passed it about really nicely. James Wilson is becoming better as the games go by and lead the line really well. I thought Politic tied their number 18 in knots all first half and he was put out of his misery at half-time being dragged off. Conlon’s best game in a while. Pett is too good for this level he’s a 9/10 every week. Every single one of them was on there game today.

The first time since Sir John’s days that I have just sat and watched such excellent quality football. James Wilson is a great footballer and getting fitter by the week. Our midfield is the best in the division…

Absolutely brilliant. To a man, the whole game, brilliant. You tell me that’s not a team and a squad catching fire to take the league title? Totally controlled the game, could have scored more, interlinking down both flanks, dealt with some tricky customers like Nouble without too much hassle. Strong and dominant throughout, but special mentions to:
Jones: a very special find
Pett: getting better and better, rarely loses the ball, constantly breaking up play and had some attacking flair today
Politic: just give the man the ball, he’ll do the rest, brilliant
Gibbo: nailed on starter and still improving
