We’re not fearful – Darrell Clarke on Port Vale’s Forest Green test
Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke says the Vale need to concentrate on their own game rather than opponents Forest Green Rovers.
Speaking to the media ahead of the game, Clarke gave answers on a range of subjects including:
On the week so far:
It’s a real good group to train, to work, we’ve been plenty of work on the training ground…
On the midweek friendly game:
We got some mins into Gibbo (James Gibbins) and one or two of the other players. The standard of the opposition wasn’t great but it was important that we got some match minutes in. That was pleasing work… He (Gibbons) came through great…
On the performance against Stevenage:
It was a rubbish first-half performance. Then you are looking for a reaction from the group. If you keep giving the ball away like we did in the first-half, it doesn’t matter what formation you play…
We briefed the lads on the Monday on what was the good and bad of the performance…
On the Forest Green game:
Forest Green have had a good start but we’re not fearful, we’ll go there and try and win the game. We have to concentrate on our own performance…
On the lack of goals so far:
I’m frustrated but I know there’s a lot more to come from this team but we have to show that, actions speak louder than words…
We have to do better with our chances, with our delivery…
On the injury situation:
On Leon Legge’s injury:
It’s a freak injury… he’s going to be a while, we had it scanned it’s going to be two or three months, it’s very unfortunate at the start of the season, he’s a rock, but he’ll probably be back sooner than that knowing Leon…
On Jake Taylor and Tom Conlon:
Tom’s stepping up and we’re hoping that’s not too far away. Jake Taylor as well is really coming on leaps and bounds…
On possible transfers:
We would like to get another centre-forward missed out on one or two we were waiting on for loans but we’ll keep waiting right up till the last minute…
