Manager Darrell Clarke made four changes including a recall for Proctor while Aaron Martin, Ben Garrity and Mal Benning also started.
Vale began the game in dominant fashion with Proctor opening his League account on just six minutes after good work from Garrity and Wilson. The targetman then doubled his tally just two minutes later with a powerful effort.
On fifteen minutes there was a well observed tribute to Lee Collins, who had played for both clubs and passed away earlier this year.
Despite their fine start to the season Forest Green did little to worry the resilient Vale backline after those early strikes. In fact, Vale could have made it three when the impressive Garrity forced a fine save from McGhee.
The home side were having plenty of possession but Vale were largely restricted them to their own half as they went into the break with a two goal advantage.
Vale looked comfortable in the second-half as they produced further chances for Proctor and Garrity which were both saved. There was even time for the reintroduction of captain Tom Conlon after injury.
It was an impressive performance by the Valiants who closed the game down expertly to keep a clean sheet on what had been a brilliant away day for the fans.

What a great result, though typical of Vale, looking for their first league win of the season they decide to brush aside the in-form team away from home. Don’t you just love them for coming up with this result. UTV.
