Kidsgrove Athletic 0-2 Port Vale match report
Kidsgrove Athletic 0-2 Port Vale match report: goals from new signing James Wilson and youth teamer Eden Bailey gave Port Vale victory in their first friendly of the summer.
Played in front of a sold-out reduced capacity due to Covid restrictions, Port Vale named a different starting XI for each half.
New goalkeeper Lucas Covolan did not play, so there was a chance for youth teamer Joe Collinge for the first 45 minutes. He was joined by fellow youngster Michael Lennon and a trialist.
There was an early blow for Vale when Alex Hurst was forced off injured. Kidsgrove were also asked to substitute one of their players after a heavy challenge on David Worrall.
It was Vale who took the lead just past the half-hour mark when James Wilson converted from long-range to open his account for the club.
Kidsgrove pressed early in the second 45 before Vale went close through Bailey. Bailey, Amoo and Conlon all had further chances before good work from Mal Benning set up Bailey to notch Vale’s second.
