Former Valiants: veteran former Vale strikers link-up at Dover Athletic
We’ve got a round-up of the movements of former Port Vale players including two signings for Dover Athletic.
Dover Athletic
There could be two Port Vale old boys upfront at Dover next season. Athletic have announced the return of Ricky Miller, 32, who enjoyed a prolific spell at Dover, and also the signing of Ben Williamson, also aged 32. Miller had a solitary season with the Valiants between 2017 and 2018 while Williamson spent three years at the club, winning promotion in 2013.
Stockport County
Former Vale striker Richie Bennett has been released by mutual consent with one year of his contract still remaining. However, his destination is unlikely to be Football League newcomers Hartlepool United where he recently spent a loan spell. Hartlepool boss Dave Challinor told the local media: “Without speaking out of turn, people have asked about us doing Richie on a permanent, Richie is on more than double what any of our players earn.”
Wealdstone
Wealdstone have signed winger Rhys Browne on an initial one-year contract. Former Valiant Browne, 25, made one appearance on a short-term deal last season for the Stones before joining Sutton United until the end of the campaign. The Antigua & Barbuda international made 14 appearances to help Sutton to the National League title.
Notts County
Former Port Vale defender Connell Rawlinson has agreed a new two-year deal with the club. Coach Ian Burchnall told their official website: “Connell’s been a big part of our defensive unit for a while now.”
Aldershot
Midfielder Toby Edser, who had a brief loan spell at Vale Park without making a senior appearance, has agreed a new deal with the club. Edser was one of two loan signings made following the departure of Neil Aspin when the club had no manager in place. Fellow loanee Callum Whelan also failed to make a first-team appearance.
