Shocking performance, can’t wait to get rid of deadwood – Darrell Clarke pulls no punches after final game defeat
Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke was fuming at his side’s performance after they lost the final game of the season 3-0 to Mansfield Town.
A much changed Vale side were largely second-best throughout the game as they finished the season on a low note.
Speaking to the media, Clarke said: “It was a shocking performance, a real bad performance. It takes a bit of gloss off the run of form we’ve had.
“I had the whole group in there, all 29 of them ‘What have you done to think you warrant a place here next season?’
“There will be one or two tears shed for one or two genuine boys who didn’t make the cut but there will be one or two right good, principle points made to one or two players that I’ll enjoy saying because for me being a professional footballer it’s about every single day living your life right.
“I’m excited to build for the future and I can’t wait to get rid of deadwood.”
