Questions answered – Port Vale manager on win over Colchester Utd
Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke said that there were “questions answered in another big game for us” after the 1-0 away victory over Colchester United.
After beating Newport in midweek, the Valiants secured their second successive win after striker Devante Rodney’s first-half goal proved the winner on Saturday afternoon. The impressive Rodney also hit the post in a game which the Valiants deserved to win after dominating the first-half of the match.

I am really pleased, that is two big games where a lot of questions have been rightly answered about the group…
Clarke told the local media after the game: “We were game with a bit of quality at times. I am really pleased, that is two big games where a lot of questions have been rightly answered about the group. We have answered them in these two games and we are delighted to get the clean sheet and the 1-0.
The Port Vale manager continued: “I thought we had the better chances. It was a scrappy game, a scruffy game, but you have to find ways to win League Two football matches I am afraid, certainly when the pitches aren’t great anywhere. My lads defended well and my keeper has had to make one tremendous save but other than that we have defended superbly as a team.
They have handled the pressure superbly. So, the plaudits again go to my players…
“We just concentrate on winning our next game. There will be lots of twists and turns to come but all I will say is questions answered in another big game for us. There’s a lot of pressure, the lads are well aware of that but they have handled the pressure superbly. So, the plaudits again go to my players.”

The 1-0 win over Colchester United is a result that eases Port Vale’s League Two relegation fears this season and the Valiants can now travel to Crawley on Saturday with confidence boosted and in a much more relaxed state of mind.

Great week for Port Vale with 2 games won and 6 points gained, it’s not over yet but Vale’s existence in the football league is certainly more realistic after these 2 results. Good to hear that Mr Pope is nearly ready to go again, I am sure that you will agree Robinson just isn’t good enough, yesterday he had the chance to put Vale 2 up and failed miserably, I would play a half fit Pope rather than suffer another insipid performance from Robinson. Well done Vale for coming through a testing time !!!

I only watched highlights, but definitely the old Port Vale from last season are back. Some good stuff being played at the moment.Just goes to show that the players are good enough when they turn up.

To be fair to Robinson he is putting a shift in and some of his hold up play was good ,but strikers judged on goals and unfortunately lacks in that department, think he probably just needs a goal to spark his confidence but he’s having enough chances to have got that by now ,but we are starting to look like we will have enough to stay up ,credit to Clarke and staff for getting a bit more out of the players ,keep going vale ,let’s get the points on the board and then look forward to next season
