Only a very small stepping stone: Darrell Clarke on his first Port Vale win
Port Vale Darrell Clarke says he is not resting on his laurels after recording his first win as Valiants manager on Tuesday evening.
If you think Port Vale’s revived form will result in another improved performance on Saturday, you may want to check out some Paddy Power promotional codes and back your instincts. However, only gamble what you can afford to lose.
Clarke was appointed Port Vale manager in February but it has taken the former Walsall manager eight games to record his first three points in Burslem and even though the win over Newport County was most welcome, Clarke told the media: “There is no let up for a football manager and that is exactly the way it should be. So, I enjoyed Tuesday night and obviously the players enjoyed Tuesday. But it is only a very small stepping stone to where we eventually want to be taking it.”
Clarke says his players need to keep displaying the same levels in the next game against fellow strugglers Colchester United adding: “In the Bolton game, we deserved the point for me, on the performance, then on Tuesday we have got the win and the performance.
“So, for me, let’s focus on performance. My work with my players is focusing on that and then the results can take care of themselves. So, on to the next one, Colchester away, a big game, they are down there with us. They will be looking to win the game and we will be looking to win the game.”
The Port Vale manager was asked about the performances of defender Leon Legge and forward Theo Robinson to which he responded: “Leon Legge has taken his opportunity but we need to keep that consistency with that from him. He is a model pro, he is a great lad.
“And the likes of Theo, by his own admission he has probably not had the impact that he would have liked when he joined the football club but he has got a decent goalscoring record at this level. I thought his work rate the other night was tremendous, leading the line.
“So, we will be looking for more of the same, and Theo will be looking to get one or two goals along the way.”
