Prime Minister provides possible date for fans to return to football stadia
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has unveiled plans for a four step move from lockdown restrictions with the third step allowing fans to return to sporting events.
Johnson says step three, which could see fans return to sporting events subject to capacity restrictions, will start no earlier than 17 May.
However, should supporters be allowed, it’s likely that stadiums such as Vale Park will be restricted to 4,000 capacity crowds.
The PM said there will be “at least” five weeks between each of the four steps with step one starting from the 8th March.
The introduction of each step, he says, will depend on four “tests”.
They are:
- The success of the vaccine rollout
- The number of hospital admissions and deaths falling
- The amount of pressure on the NHS
- The impact of any variants
