Port Vale CEO welcomes ‘innovative’ director of football role
Port Vale chief executive officer Colin Garlick has welcomed the appointment of David Flitcroft into a new Director of Football role at the club.
Flitcroft is well known to Garlick who worked with the former Barnsley, Swindon Town and Mansfield Town manager while both were at Rochdale.
Both Garlick and Flitcroft will have to wait for the next Port Vale game after bad weather forced a postponement at the weekend. If you’re looking to fill time before Vale’s next fixture why not visit our friends at Quinnbet for a Quinnbet Coupon Code?
I think it’s a giant step forward for us and I can see so many benefits. That’s not just for the first team, for players and staff, but across recruitment, the academy, the foundation…
Talking about the appointment of Flitcroft, Garlick told the Sentinel newspaper: “He challenged me on a daily basis to make us better when we were at Rochdale. That was welcome because those challenges were only ever to make us better.”
However, Flitcroft’s role has now changed to that of Director of Football, a position that Garlick welcomes. He told the newspaper: “Having a director of football is quite innovative for a club at our level. I know it is not a totally new role and we hear about directors of football particularly in the Premier League and Championship.
“But I think it’s a giant step forward for us and I can see so many benefits. That’s not just for the first team, for players and staff, but across recruitment, the academy, the foundation.
“David will challenge us in other areas as well to make us better, whether that is commercially, community wise, media wise.
“I had warned Carol that he would challenge her. That’s okay, that’s what we want.
“If he sees something he can make better, I can assure you he won’t be shrinking violet in coming forward with his ideas.”
