Following the appointment of David Flitcroft as Director of Football, former Walsall manager Clarke was confirmed as the new manager.
In a press conference ahead of the game with Leyton Orient, the new manager said he would be assisted by former interim manager Danny Pugh and coach Billy Paynter, who will be stepping up from coaching the youth team.
Danny’s assisting me, Billy Paynter’s assisting me as well. He’s stepped up from the youth team. I’ll be working with those boys assessing, not just the coaching staff but assessing everything else in the football club over the coming weeks…
Talking to the media, Clarke said: “Danny’s assisting me, Billy Paynter’s assisting me as well. He’s stepped up from the youth team. I’ll be working with those boys assessing, not just the coaching staff but assessing everything else in the football club over the coming weeks… changes as necessary.
“No problem with Danny. Danny’s done a great job while he’s been as interim manager and by his own words he’s not quite ready but they’re here to support me and to be fair the last few days have been very positive.
For me the job has to be done right. You have to assess the people in the building. That will be assessed going forward. it’s about getting the right people for the job.”
“Hectic… very, very hectic…”

Best wishes to the new management team and nice to see Billy Paynter moving up I recall good memories of Billy when managing/coaching the under 16s of which he was part of he always had plenty of enthusiasm to accompany his eye for a goal. Good luck.

Seems to be a very forward looking setup and could be a good chance for a more youthful team. No indication of Frank Sinclair in the setup.

We certainly seem to have got together a good management team. It now remains to be seen what happens on the pitch. I think that most fans will think we are heading in the right direction but it is up to the players. There is plenty of coaching and inspirational guidance for the players to get a grip and produce the level of football to achieve the results the fans all crave.
So come on lads get out there and show the opposition how good we can be.
