Dutch midfielder Nico Jalink didn’t enjoy the stellar Port Vale career of compatriot Robin van der Laan but he did at least have a memorable goal from his spell at the Valiants.
It came as the winning goal in a 1–0 win over Derby County at Vale Park on 6 November and was scored against England goalkeeper Peter Shilton.
Jalink stayed in Burslem for one season (1991-1992) and made 32 appearances, scoring that solitary goal.
