Match preview: Nottingham Forest vs Port Vale (friendly, August 2020)
It’s Port Vale’s third friendly of the summer as they travel to Nottingham Forest in a behind closed doors friendly game…
Match details:
Teams: Nottingham Forest vs Port Vale
Venue: Loughborough training ground
Kick-off: Wednesday 26th August
Form guide
Considering there’s been no warm-up against non-league sides, Vale have done pretty well against League One sides. They narrowly lost to Blackpool in their first game while they beat Fleetwood in their second game. However, the game against Forest is clearly a further step up in class.
Forest suffered disappointment in both of their friendly games at the weekend. The senior side surprisingly lost to Oldham Athletic 2-0 and the U23 side lost 1-0 to Scunthorpe United.
Port Vale team news:
The Vale are getting closer to finalising their squad ahead of the new season. New signing Theo Robinson can be expected to get some minutes after signing this week as can David Fitzpatrick. Dino Visser (right) seems to be set to be the club’s final signing of the summer and can expect to get some minutes in goal.
John Askey will also be keen to see Mark Cullen and hopefully Manny Oyeleke play some part.
Opposition team news:
It’s not clear what calibre of Forest side will face the Valiants in the game. However, new signings who could potentially be on show include Jack Colback, Tyler Blackett and Lyle Taylor. Former Vale loanee Jake Taylor (right) may face his former club. The midfielder had an impressive spell in Burslem and did enough to attract a cash offer from the Valiants.
Connections
Aside from the aforementioned Taylor, Adam Crookes (right) could face his former side. Crookes signed permanently for the Valiants last season and has looked composed this summer after a switch from left-back to centre-half. He will no doubt be keen to show his former club what he can offer.

Last time we met:
The last time the two sides met competitively was back in 2007. A League One clash at the City Ground ended 2-0 in Forest’s favour. It was the same score at Vale Park as Forest completed the double. The last player to score against Nottingham Forest was Michael Husbands (right) back in 2006.
