What next for Port Vale?
With the disappointment of missing out on this season’s play-offs by one point due to League Two being cancelled. Carol Shanahan said back in May that she “came away shaking” after voting for the season to end. She also spoke of why the decision was taken.
“Port Vale fans could look at it and ask: ‘Why on earth did Carol vote for this that meant we missed out?’ Well, it was for the greater good. I think it was the right thing to do.”
There has been a lot of concern around The Vale and other clubs at these uncertain times. However, there is one thing that all Port Vale fans can take solace in – that is the arrival of the new season. There have been signs that that club is already gearing up for the new campaign – and fans can’t wait!
The club is planning to release its new kit for the 2020/21 season over the next few weeks. Port Vale Chief executive Colin Garlick stated that
“The kit is very much a priority. Originally, we would have been looking at a normal June-type launch, early June because typically we want to be out before Father’s Day.”
However, because of the current situation in England and across Europe. Port Vale are waiting on Errea – who provides The Vales’ kit and are based in Italy to supply the kit soon.
Garlick also wants fans to know that they will be able to get their hands on the new kit soon and well before the start of the new season.
“I am mindful people want to know exactly what is happening. We have, hopefully, something a little bit different. It is a priority so keep your eye on it and hopefully, in the next couple of weeks we can get some news out there.”
One other piece of good news that has reached Port Vale fans is that fan favourite Nathan Smith has signed a new contract with the club that will keep him there until June 2022. Smith feels he has made the right decision remaining at The Vale.
“I’ve not been part of a successful football team yet, but I’m hoping to be part of one next year.” He feels that the club has what it takes to make it back to the play-offs or even beyond.”
He has a personal goal that he has set himself as a Port Vale player for the new season and hopes to follow through.
“I’ve got unfinished business to get to 200 (appearances), and unfinished business to get in the play-offs,”
With Cristian Montano, Rhys Browne, and Mark Cullen all signing new contracts for the club plus, the arrival of Devante Rodney from Salford City this summer. Things are looking up for the club when the new season begins.
One thing is for sure, Port Vale will want to be pushing on and building on 2020’s near miss!
