Stoke City manager Michael O’Neill has appeared to rule out an unlikely Stoke move for out of contract Port Vale defender Nathan Smith.
The Potters have been linked with a move for the central defender who now looks set to leave Vale Park after failing to agree a new deal.
I think we have to be mindful that, at this minute in time, the centre back position is not a position where we are low on number…
Speaking to the Sentinel newspaper O’Neill commented: “I don’t know much about the player in question.
“I think we have to be mindful that, at this minute in time, the centre back position is not a position where we are low on number.
“We have a number of centre backs at the club and we also have a centre back returning from a loan spell in Kevin Wimmer.
“So those are all situations that we have to deal with. We’ve got Harry Souttar to return from a loan spell as well.
