About the match
This was a vital two-legged play-off to reach the World Cup finals. T&T were trailing 1-0 at home before Birchall intervened with a stunning strike to make it 1-1. Trinidad then won 1-0 in the second-leg and Birchall would later become the only current Port Vale player to appear in a World Cup final.
