Major boost for Port Vale as defender hints he will sign new deal
Port Vale defender James Gibbons has told the Sentinel newspaper that he is set to agree a new contract with the club.
The young full-back has progressed through the junior ranks and enjoyed a highly successful start to this season as the club’s regular right-back. He made his debut in 2016 and is set to reach one hundred appearances for the club in the near future.
Gibbons’ current contract was set to expire in the summer but he is now due to join the likes of David Worrall and Scott Burgess in agreeing long-term deals to stay at the club.
It was a matter of, if it gets offered then I will take it. We have to sort out all the details, but I want to stay…
Gibbons told the Sentinel newspaper: “It is just a matter of sorting it out, so it is ongoing at the minute. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks it will be sorted.
“It was a matter of, if it gets offered then I will take it. We have to sort out all the details, but I want to stay, especially with me being so young and how the season has gone as well. Hopefully that continues in the next few years.”
“The club has looked after me since I was 11 so it is good to repay them when you are playing well as well.”
