We made it hard work in the end – Port Vale manager on dramatic win at FGR
Port Vale manager John Askey was delighted to record an away win but disappointed to see two players sent-off in the closing stages of their 3-2 victory over Forest Green Rovers.
Vale were cruising at 3-0 thanks to goals from Shaun Brisley and a double from Tom Pope. But the home side pulled one back, Mitch Clark was dismissed for a dangerous tackle. Rovers then scored in injury time and Vale saw striker Pope dismissed for a second yellow. It was a dramatic end to Vale’s first-ever League win at Forest Green.
I think you can see the belief is there. One thing you can’t knock them for is their effort. We need to see games out better…
Askey told the media: “We made it hard work in the end. It’s great we won. I am really pleased about that, but disappointed that we have ended up with two players sent off. From being in such a commanding position, we lost two goals.
“But I don’t want to take any shine off it because, to come away from home and get three points again, is a fantastic effort from the players.
