Throwback Thursday: Port Vale sweep aside Scunthorpe Utd in 2016
It was a false dawn but Bruno Ribeiro’s side turned on the style in 2016 to put three goals past Scunthorpe United. The star of the show was loan striker Alex Jones.
Birmingham City forward Jones netted twice in the second-half to add to a goal from strike partner Anton Forrester in the first. Defender Jordan Clarke saw red for the visitors to seal a poor afternoon for the Iron as they recorded their first loss of the season.
The match saw Vale maintain their 100% home record and move into fifth place in the table. However, the Ribeiro experiment soon unravelled and he left the club on Boxing Day.
The Vale team that day was: Alnwick, Purkiss, Smith, Streete, Knops, Grant, Foley, Tavares (Amoros), Thomas (Hart), Jones, Forrester (Paterson)
