Major boost as Port Vale defender is set to stay with the club
Port Vale have revealed there is a clause in defender James Gibbons contract that allows the club the option to extend the full-back’s deal.
The right-back’s current deal was set to expire in the summer but Vale will be widely expected to activate the clause as Gibbons has been a key performer for the Valiants this season.
The youngster, who progressed through the junior ranks, has been the regular right-back this season and at 21 years of age, the Vale will believe he has plenty of time to develop his game further.
This year Vale have extended the contracts of David Worrall and Scott Burgess while Luke Joyce and Gibbons now look set to extend their stay due to contract clauses. It will be a major boost to the club to have already sorted out several key players as a number of players are set to be out of contract in the summer. The list includes Nathan Smith, Leon Legge, Cristian Montano and Mark Cullen.
