Form Guide: Which teams will promotion chasing Port Vale face next?
Excitement is certainly mounting at Vale Park after the team’s recent fine run of form. We take a look at the next six opponents for the Valiants.
Walsall (A) 22nd Feb
Vale fans will be delighted if they can put one over their old rivals at the Bescot. Opponents Walsall ended a recent losing streak of three straight defeats with an unbeaten run of three matches. The good news for John Askey’s side is that their recent home form is decidedly patchy with just one win in the last three fixtures.
Scunthorpe (H) 29th Feb
Scunthorpe have had a poor 2020 so far and Vale will be keen to ensure the run continues. The club’s flaky form is arguably due to a poor transfer window during which midfielder Matthew Lund and veteran striker Lee Novak both departed. The Iron have just two wins in the nine fixtures played this year and are also without a win in their last four away games.
Cheltenham (A) 7th March
The first of two key matches for John Askey’s men, this trip to play-off rivals Cheltenham could have a huge bearing on the Valiants’ promotion hopes. The Robins have had an excellent season so far and have won their last four home fixtures. It’s sure to be a tricky task for Vale.
Crawley Town (H) 14th March
Mid-table Crawley are in poor form at the moment and Vale will keen to capitalise on that. John Yems’ side have gone three matches without a win and have just one away victory all season.
Bradford City (H) 17th March
The second crucial game of this season, Bradford have recently dropped out of the play-off places after a desperately poor 2020 which cost manager Gary Bowyer his job. Stuart McCall’s side lost strikers James Vaughan and Eoin Doyle in January and have just two wins since the New Year. They are also without an away win in their last ten fixtures.
Oldham Athletic (A) 21st March
A club with severe financial issues, Oldham are looking to get away from the drop-zone. Their recent form won’t be helping as they are without a win in three games. However, they are unbeaten in their last four home fixtures.
