At the moment it feels like a defeat – Port Vale coach on draw with Scunthorpe
Port Vale coach Dave Kevan said that the “overwhelming feeling at the moment is one of disappointment” after the Valiants conceded a late goal in their 2-2 draw with Scunthorpe.
The Vale were leading 2-1 thanks to goals from Mark Cullen and Nathan Smith only to concede a late George Miller equaliser in the 90th minute. Here’s the BBC Sport website’s take on the game.
The draw was enough to push Vale back into the play-off places but the club may come to rue the two dropped points in the final run-in the season.
We have to put it behind us as soon as we can and look to the next game. But at the moment it feels like a defeat…
Kevan may be looking to the future run-in and perhaps in the future Port Vale will become one of the best Football academies in England. It could be that a youthful Port Vale side of the future will be edge draws and take the team to even greater heights.
Speaking after the game Kevan told the media: “We felt in the first half we were in control of the game. We probably shaded that and maybe could have gone in further ahead than just the one.
“In the second-half, we never really got going. But you expect to win the game at 2-1 up at home with a minute to play. So, I am very disappointed but we have to put it behind us as soon as we can and look to the next game. But at the moment it feels like a defeat.
“They (the players) are disappointed. We all care, we all want to do the best we can for the football club and, in fairness to them, they have done and they will continue to do so for the rest of the season. But the overriding feeling at the moment is one of disappointment.”
