As well as we’ve played all season – John Askey on Port Vale’s win over Colchester Utd
Port Vale manager John Askey said that he thought the performance was “as well as we have played all season” as they swept aside play-off rivals Colchester United 3-0 at Vale Park.
The Valiants scored goals through midfielder Tom Conlon and striker Mark Cullen (2) as they entered the League Two play-off places.
I thought for the full ninety that is as well as we have played all season. It was nice we have seen out the game, I am just really pleased…
Speaking after the game to the media John Askey commented: “I thought for the full ninety that is as well as we have played all season. It was nice we have seen out the game, I am just really pleased.
“We are probably getting used to playing in windy conditions, having done so at Northampton and Forest Green. But the good thing today was the pitch was decent which enabled us to play football when we could.
“We had quite a few chances. Tom Conlon had another good chance and Monty had a couple. But after playing against the wind in the first half, we were pleased to come in at 1-0.
“The worry coming in at half time was that, having played well, it (the wind) was going to drop in the second half . But they maintained the tempo and fully deserved the win.”
