Throwback Thursday: Port Vale 2-0 Swindon Town, 1989
Watch as goals from Valiants strikers Darren Beckford and Nicky Cross give Port Vale a 2-0 home win over Ossie Ardiles’ Swindon Town side.
Played in front of a crowd of 7,393 at Vale Park this game took place on the 18th November 1989.
It marked the start of three straight wins for John Rudge’s Vale side as they went on to beat Plymouth Argyle and Bradford City. At the same time, Vale Park opened a new 48 seat dedicated disabled stand at a cost of £100,000.
Beckford would yet again finish the season as the side’s top-scorer with 21 goals while Cross would notch 15. Vale finished in eleventh position in the Second Division while Swindon would end in fourth place.
