Port Vale fans’ views on the 3-1 win over Exeter City – in the second-half Amoo was unplayable
The Port Vale fans on the onevalefan.co.uk forum felt it was very much a game of two halves on Tuesday evening – with the Valiants dazzling at times during their second-half display.
Vale won 3-1 thanks to two goals from Richie Bennett and another from defender Leon Legge.

Port Vale 3-1 Exeter City – fans’ reactions
Fantastic second half from the lads last night. We have to remember we’ve only had one summer (where Carol & Kevin had only just taken over the club) since our worst season for a long time. As a club, we’re on a journey and we’re very much moving in the right direction. John Askey and staff are doing a brilliant job and deserve a lot of credit, as do the players. Yes we have poor games but who doesn’t at this level? Amoo was unplayable second-half. Also special mention to Tom Conlon who drove us forward with his balls to Amoo and to Brisley who hasn’t played much and must be rusty but gave their dangerous forward line absolutely nothing all night.

What can you say but what great character our lads possessed from about the 30th minute to the last scoring three and chasing and working so brilliantly as a team with everyone putting a shift in especially Amoo who I thought was a 8/10 and excellent all night followed closely by by Conlon who was playing balls through which were quite frankly superb. I’m pleased for Bennett to get two goals which will do him the world of good . I thought Brisley did very well as the game went on

Wow what a game! The magic and wonderment of football. First-half we were stuffed. Second-half we ripped them apart. Askey has to take tremendous credit for changing the tactics at half-time. We had the midfield shaking hands with our back four in the first-half and then trying to play through the midfield. We were losing first, second and third ball. Second-half we played both our wingers properly out wide and hit them early. Amoo was superb and Wozza was back to his imperial best. Conlon and Burgess were energy personified.

Wow, still buzzing after that second-half. What a transformation. I challenge any Vale fan to honestly say that they saw that coming. First-half, we were awful, there’s no escaping that. The penalty changed everything (as well as whatever JA and DK said to them at half-time). You could clearly see the change in attitude and confidence of every Vale player, and we went for it. Switching play, winning the midfield battle, and getting the ball into dangerous areas. Special shouts out to Bennett, who scored two, and should probably have had a hat-trick, Amoo, who was on fire in the second half, Burgess, who delivered a peach of a ball for the third, and Brisley, who grew into the game and by the end was winning everything.

Great response, at half-time I was cursing myself for the 150 mile round trip to watch that! We were off the pace, slow to react, looked tired and couldn’t pass, as bad as Swindon at the weekend if not worse and couldn’t see any way back for us. Second-half we should have been 2-0 down in the first minute but then once the penalty went in we were like men possessed and in the end my only disappointment was we only got three such was the chances we had. Incredible effort and performance.

So the tactics were, play diabolical in the first half, lure them into a false sense of security, then absolutely slam them in the second half. Same away at Cheltenham in the cup. Buzzing with that result, Tom Conlon bossed that midfield second-half.

Worst performance of the season swiftly followed by one of the best. I thought our second string players grew into to game as the confidence built up. It makes a massive difference when Conlon plays forwards instead of back and sideways and proves that there is a player in there. Some of those balls for Amoo were fantastic and gave Amoo something to attack.

After that display over 90 minutes, I don’t know whose more confused, me or Exeter. By half-time I was thinking how many of those players would we want to keep, then right from the offset, second half, they all looked amazing. This is the life of a Port Vale fan. Brisley started to command, Conlon looking the player he should be, Burgess developing into gold dust, Amoo enjoying himself and Bennett taking a couple of opportunities. Overall, not a bad night’s work from Askey, Kevan and the lads.

Incredible turn around! Second-half was one of the most complete performances of the season. First was one of the worst. I have to say my MOTM would have been Brisley. I’ve given him stick for his performances so far but he was very good tonight. Happy with the three points, happy for Bennett and Amoo who need confidence to push on!

Brilliant second-half, it’s refreshing to see a reaction like that. We played with a lot more energy and desire. We are a far better team when we are on the front foot and getting in the opposition’s faces. We made the most of our momentum and that’s when Worrall, Amoo, Burgess and Conlon started to impose themselves going forward. Credit to Bennett for his two goals.
