“The gaffer put faith in me… I owe him” – David Worrall on John Askey
Port Vale forward David Worrall says he “owes” John Askey after he returned to the Valiants starting eleven following his suspension.
Worrall missed the last three League games after being dismissed in the closing stages of the match against Scunthorpe United.
The winger returned for Vale’s 1-1 home draw against Cheltenham Town on Saturday afternoon and said he was delighted to be back in action for the club.
The gaffer put faith in me and put me straight back in so I owe him that to have a good performance, but yeah it is frustrating, but it was my own fault getting sent off so I cant really moan. I’ve got to get on with it…
He told the official Port Vale website: “I loved it, even if I wasn’t selected and sat on the bench, I would have been itching to get on and made sure I made an impact on my job.
“The gaffer put faith in me and put me straight back in so I owe him that to have a good performance, but yeah it is frustrating, but it was my own fault getting sent off so I cant really moan. I’ve got to get on with it and just try and get back in the squad and work hard for the team because I’ve let them down as well.
“The place has brightened up all around, you want to come in and work hard, you want to be in that starting eleven playing games and fighting for the play-offs.”
