Really disappointing – John Askey on Port Vale’s draw with Mansfield Town
Port Vale manager John Askey said that it was “really disappointing” to only take a point from the 2-2 away draw against Mansfield Town on Boxing Day.
The Valiants were winning 2-0 thanks to goals from central defenders Nathan Smith and Leon Legge only for the home side to score two late goals in the closing nine minutes to earn a point.
To be 2-0 up with 10 minutes to go, you should see the game out. But we made a mistake for their first goal which changes everything…
Speaking after the game, the Port Vale manager told the local media: “It’s really disappointing.
“To be 2-0 up with 10 minutes to go, you should see the game out. But we made a mistake for their first goal which changes everything.
“Even at 2-1 you still think you should see it out.
“The most pleasing thing was the way we played as we played some really good football.
“If we keep playing like that and working as hard as that we should start to win.”

The need for a left back has been required for some time even Crookes is not the answer. This would have saved us a number of points this season and placed us even better than we currently are which is still a good position.
