Massive for this football club – Port Vale manager on FA Cup win
Port Vale manager John Askey has given his verdict on the 3-1 FA Cup second round win over Cheltenham Town.
The Valiants won in dramatic fashion as strike Tom Pope’s quickfire hat-trick saw Vale come from behind.
Vale will find out their fate in the third round on Monday and could pull a big club out for a moneyspinning FA Cup tie. The draw will be live on BBC television on Monday evening.
It is really pleasing and it is massive for the football club as well. We are in the hat on Monday which is what we all wanted…
Speaking after the match a delighted Askey said: “It is really pleasing and it is massive for the football club as well. We are in the hat on Monday which is what we all wanted.
“If it is one of the big boys then great but if not then you are looking for one of the lower league clubs at home. “But at the moment we will just enjoy today.”
He added: “Richie hadn’t been scoring and Tom is champing at the bit. He has taken his chance. We all know that if he does get half a chance then, more than likely, he will put it in the back of the net.
