Great pass from Lloyd – unsung midfielder praised after Trophy success over Newcastle Utd
Fans have come to the defence of midfielder Ryan Lloyd – an ever-present in the team’s three Football League Trophy wins this season…
While Mark Cullen and Jonny Maddison were seen as the best performers on the night as a much-changed Vale side defeated Newcastle 2-1, it was Lloyd, so often the target of unimaginative boo boys this season, who set up the winning goal. Here are the views of the OVF forum members.

We might not have been great today but we gave them a lesson in how to win games. Looking good, keeping the ball and overplaying is not how you win football matches.

I loved Ryan Lloyd’s exquisite defence-splitting pass for the winning goal.

We have got a 100% record in the EFL trophy. Lloyd has played the full 90 in each of those games.

Cullen and Maddison both had good games. I was impressed by Newcastle, technically they were very good.

Cullen was full of running and two goals; worth a bash up top. Scores pretty much every time he starts, despite offering little else. Nice to see Conlon back; him and Atkinson provide some genuine competition for Taylor and Burgess to keep up their recent levels.

Maddison and Cullen were the stand outs for me. Brisley was the best of the defenders but what on earth was up with Browne. Did he beat his full back once?

Mark Cullen has done his chances no harm at all, both goals were really well taken.
