Nathan Smith hoping teams continue to underestimate Port Vale
Match winner Nathan Smith says he is happy to see teams continue to “underestimate” the Valiants.
Vale have flirted with the League Two relegation zone in recent seasons but the win over promotion candidates Plymouth Argyle will convince many fans that the club is on the up this season.
I think going in as an underdog only benefits us, because if people underestimate us we’ll go there and we’ll put on a show and get three points…
Smith was delighted to be the scorer of the only goal of the game telling the official Port Vale website: “To get another goal makes me really happy, over the last few years I’ve struggled to score and I’ve been criticised for that but to get another goal and to get it when it means three points means a lot.”
Vale will take on another team, Exeter City, who are in the promotion places this season but the central defender is confident Vale can cope.
He added: “It gives us a lot of confidence going into Tuesday’s game, and for the gaffer to keep confidence in the back four, knowing we haven’t kept as many clean-sheets as we’d have liked just keeps us pushing on.
