Former Valiants: updates on Ben Whitfield, Anton Forrester and Wilson Carvalho
Another of our occasional updates on how some former Port Vale players are faring…
Ben Whitfield makes a flying start
The former Valiant had a flying start to his career at new club Torquay United. Having left Vale Park on Tuesday afternoon, Whitfield was named on the bench for Torquay’s game against Woking that evening. He came on and duly netted the equalising goal with a rare header. Torquay assistant boss Aaron Downes said: “I’m not sure he scores too many like that, but it was great for him to come off the bench and score such an important one..”
Anton Forrester drops down to non-league
After an injury plagued spell with the Valiants, the former Blackburn Rovers forward (right) has dropped down to the Northern Premier League to appear for Radcliffe Borough. He played 66 minutes of Borough’s 1-0 defeat to Basford United.
Wilson Carvalho is off the mark
The former Port Vale Development team member earned a move to League One side Accrington in the summer. The winger made his mark on Tuesday as he scored in Stanley’s 2-1 Football League Trophy win over Fleetwood Town.
Ryan Boot and Sam Johnson in keeping clash
It was the clash of the former Port Vale goalkeepers on Saturday when FC Halifax Town hosted Solihull Moors. Both Boot and Johnson had progressed through the Vale youth ranks. It was Johnson who went home the happier of the pair as Halifax triumphed 2-1.
Forwards combine for Eastleigh goal
Former Valiants Tyrone Barnett and Ben Williamson combined to score Eastleigh’s first in a 2-0 win over Boreham Wood. Barnett’s through ball put Williamson through to score the opener.
Daniels on target again
Brendon Daniels (right) scored his third goal of the season as AFC Telford won an highly entertaining game against Gloucester City 4-3.
Byron Moore off mark for new club
Another former Valiant, winger Byron Moore, netted his first goal for his new club. Moore scored for Plymouth Argyle in their 1-1 Football League Trophy draw with Bristol Rovers. It’s sure to be a sweet goal for Moore who also had a spell with Rovers earlier in this career.
