Cheltenham Town reportedly won’t make move for Port Vale forward
The local media claim that League Two side Cheltenham Town are not interested in a move for transfer-listed Port Vale forward Ben Whitfield.
Whitfield was one of five trialists at the club this week but according to the Gloucestershire Live website, none of the five will be offered terms.
Whitfield was transfer-listed alongside Connell Rawlinson in the summer and with Askey bringing in David Amoo and Rhys Browne to play in wide positions, Whitfield’s stock has fallen.
A move looks a strong possibility after Askey told BBC Radio Stoke that: “At the end of the season I told Ben that he wasn’t in our plans. Now with the forwards that we have got in, Ben is at the back of the queue, which he realises.
“So, he is trying to get himself a club.”
“We are looking to improve. I think Ben had scored three goals from open play so we are looking to improve that. You always have decisions to make as a manager on players. Sometimes you get it right, sometimes you don’t.
“It is never a personal thing. It is always just your opinion but hopefully Ben can get fixed up and have a successful career somewhere else.”
