Team news: Port Vale set to be missing three players for Colchester United game
Port Vale coach Dave Kevan has confirmed that three players are injury doubts for their opening game of the season.
Vale travel to Colchester United on Saturday and Askey says that Cristian Montano, Ryan Lloyd and Rhys Browne are all set to miss out.
Montano picked up an injury in a pre-season friendly and although he returned to training, it is considered doubtful that he will be match fit for the game. Vale coach Dave Kevan told the Sentinel “He has only really joined the group so he will probably need a little bit more work in terms of getting up to speed with the rest of the group. But he is back out there and available to us.”
Lloyd is nursing an ankle injury while new signing Browne has a hamstring injury. Kevan added: “He has a little bit of a hamstring at the moment, so he certainly won’t be with us on Saturday.”
Vale have options in wide positions with David Worrall and David Amoo both fit and on form while if manager John Askey opts for a 4-3-3 formation, then forwards Richie Bennett and Mark Cullen could also come into the equation.

Away from home 4-4-2 is better with Pope and Cullen up front
