Port Vale set to play five trialists in Kidsgrove friendly
Port Vale manager John Askey says five of the club’s six trialists will play during the friendly game against Kidsgrove.
Vale’s opening friendly takes place on Saturday and all but one of the trial players will take part.
Everyone who has come in has done well. They are all fit and I have been pleased with what I have seen…
The Valiants introduced six trialists to their squad earlier this week as they look for a replacement for departed back-up keeper Sam Hornby and also to add to outfield positions. The six are believed to include two goalkeepers and four outfield players. One of the trialist goalkeepers will not be involved according to Askey.
The Vale manager told the Sentinel newspaper: “I have been pleased with them . Sometimes you can get a trialist in who is not up to it and it can interfere with the training. It can bring the training down, but everyone who has come in has done well. They are all fit and I have been pleased with what I have seen.
“All the outfield players will play, and one of the keepers. It is early days but a game like this does give us a chance to look at those trialists.”
The Valiants are also expected to play their new summer signings as they give all their squad match practice.
