Port Vale hopeful of being injury-free for start of season
Port Vale manager John Askey says that winger Cristian Montano could be fit for the season opener against Colchester United.
Montano is the squad’s only long-term injury doubt. Talking about the club’s fitness Askey told the Sentinel: “I’m as satisfied as I could be. There’s only Monty who’s not going to be available and he should start training Monday.
“We know that on his day he can be as good as there is in the league. He’s enjoyed being at the football club and has just been frustrated by his injury.
“But he doesn’t take long to get back into full flow, so I’m sure that after a few days training Monty will be available for the following Saturday.”
Askey has also praised the fitness of the squad commenting: “Tom looks fitter than I think he did last season. Joycey and David Worrall, they seem to have increased it and look better than they did before.”
