Port Vale could look to trialists to replace departed Sam Hornby
Manager John Askey says he did think that back-up keeper Sam Hornby may want to leave the club and that he has a contingency plan.
Hornby’s departure to Bradford City leaves the Valiants short of cover for number one Scott Brown.
Whoever comes in, I think they will know how well Scott has done and it is going to be difficult for them. But we will just get one or two in over the pre-season, have a look at it and see who we think is best for the job…
Askey told the Sentinel newspaper: “I had an idea that Sam was going to go so we already had plans to bring in two or three players on trial which we will do.
“I was keen to try to keep him because I thought he would be one for the future. My idea was to keep him and get him out on loan so he improved as a goalkeeper, but Bradford have offered him first team football which we couldn’t compete with because, with Scott doing so well last year, you would imagine that he is going to start the season.”
