Port Vale manager is expecting a tough Easter Monday fixture but will put out his “best team” despite reaching league safety.
Vale suffered a poor 4-1 home loss on Easter Friday but results elsewhere saw Vale mathematically safe from relegation.
However, Askey will resist the temptation to experiment too much. He told the official Port Vale website: “We’ll prepare as we would prepare whether we had stayed up or not. The team will be a team that I think is the best team to try and win the game.
“It’ll be tough. They’re looking for an automatic promotion or play-offs but we’ve got to make sure we go there and stop them from playing and try and spoil the party.”
One player who could feature is youngster Mike Calveley with Askey tipping the youngster to play a part in the closing games since returning from a loan spell with Nuneaton. Askey added: “He’s gone out on loan and all reports were that he was doing well. He’s a big strong lad, he’s athletic and that’s what you need in this league.
“If we can have a better look at him then we’ll see how he does and it’s up to Mike then.”
