Striker boosts claim with strike for Port Vale reserves
Striker Ricky Miller pushed his claims for a first-team recall with a superb first-half strike for the Vale reserves.
Miller netted with a volley in the first-half as a strong Port Vale second-string side lost 2-1 to Wigan Athletic.
Vale are desperately short of goals with just two scored in their last ten League Two games so Miller may have done his chances of a recall no harm at all.
Other starters for the reserves including loanees Kyle Howkins, Toby Edser, Callum Whelan, Mark Harris and Kyle Howkins plus first-team squad members Connell Rawlinson, Theo Vassell, Dan Turner and Danny Elliott.
Miller has not started a game for the Valiants since the game with Carlisle United on the 26th Janaury – when he received a red card.
The former Peterborough United striker has just four goals from fifteen starts and thirteen sub appearances, but he will be hoping his goal on Tuesday will propel him into contention to start alongside Tom Pope.
Port Vale take on Mansfield Town in their next fixture and it’s a club where Miller spent a spell on loan last season. Will he be fired up to impress his former fans and colleagues?
