John Askey on loss to Cheltenham – it is like deja vu
A disappointed Port Vale manager John Askey says the team will “keep trying” despite another poor result for the club.
Vale lost 1-0 to Cheltenham Town and Askey was upset to see a Vale effort ruled out for offside.
I thought in the first-half we struggled, although we scored a perfectly good goal. It is like deja vu…
He commented: “I thought in the first-half we struggled, although we scored a perfectly good goal. It is like deja vu. I think the goal we scored was three yards on side when we watched the video. Why he has given that offside I don’t know.
“That obviously changed the game. Their only goal has come from a set piece.
“Again, we came in at half-time and discussed what was going on and stopped them having so much of the ball and it became quite an even game. It just became frustrating really.
“We were trying to get people out wide and get balls into the box but it never really happened today.
“You are trying to get goals in the team and we ended up with about five forwards on. So, you keep trying and we thought today ‘get people out wide against their wing backs and get balls in the box.’
“But it didn’t really happen and it became in the end quite an even game. But we need to do more.”
