Bookies favourite says Port Vale job would be perfect fit
Former Shrewsbury Town and Macclesfield Town manager John Askey says the Port Vale manager’s role would be a “perfect fit.”
When Neil Aspin left as Vale manager on January 30th, Askey was immediately seen as a strong favourite for the role.
It’s a job that I would love to get – and it would be a perfect fit for me. I’m from the area, my dad played for the club and I was there as a youngster…
Askey led unfancied Macclesfield to promotion last season and was a former Vale youth team player while his father Colin Askey is regarded as a Vale legend.
Askey told the Non League newspaper: “It’s a job that I would love to get – and it would be a perfect fit for me. I’m from the area, my dad played for the club and I was there as a youngster.
“I know the area and I have a feeling for the club – it’s a club dear to my heart. I know people who work there and I have great respect for the CEO Colin Garlick. I have known him for 20 years.”
