Askey on Howkins – there’s no bust-up, he’s not match fit
Port Vale manager John Askey says loan signing Kyle Howkins needs more minutes before he is considered for the first-team.
There have been calls for Askey to play the West Brom player after an impressive loan spell last season but the Port Vale manager told a radio phone-in, it was too early to consider the centre-half.
Askey told BBC Radio Stoke: “Kyle’s come back in, not match fit. I think if people have seen the last two reserve games they’ll know he needs to get fitter to be considered. We’re trying to get working with him
“We know he’s got ability. He’s a big strong lad and quite quick so if we can get him 100 per cent fit he’ll be in the reckoning.
“There’s been no bust-up. He’s only just come through the door.”
