Prediction panel: how will Port Vale fare against Notts Co?
Our prediction panel feature returns. Each week father and son duo Rob and Fred will pit their wits against a succession of OVF forum regulars.
About the predictors
Rob founded OVF over twenty years ago and updates the blog on this site. Rob says he is an “absolutely hopeless” predictor. His son Fred is 13 and has been going to see Vale for a few years now. He says that he hopes to “humiliate my dad as per usual.”

Port Vale 2-0 Notts County
I’m not one to hold much track with the “we’re too defensive” line. All good managers sort the defence out first and let the rest follow. I think Neil Aspin’s work in making Vale more resiliant will install confidence in the team and that confidence will result in goals. Ricky Miller looks to be getting fitter with each game so I’m going to go for goals from him and Connell Rawlinson (the side will also prove the “too reliant on Tom Pope” doubters wrong) and for Vale’s defence to record a fifth clean sheet in a row.
Fred
Port Vale 2-0 Notts County
I’m backing Vale’s good run to continue with yet another clean sheet for that defence. Good luck to Notts County for the remainder of the season – just not for this game!
This week the duo take on Heatwave. Here are their thoughts on the game…

My score: Port Vale 1-0 Notts County
How the game will unfold: Following a fairly turgid first half Miller comes on as a HT substitute and is upended in the box for Popey to sweep home the resulting penalty. Notts press for an equaliser but the defence stands firm.
